Museon Den Haag - Museon The Hague

Afgelopen woensdag ben ik naar Den Haag gereisd met de bedoeling de IMAX film over Vincent van Gogh te gaan zien op het filmdoek in de reuzenkoepel van Omniversum. Maar dat liep anders dan de bedoeling was. Even was ik vergeten dat de crocusvakantie al was begonnen en dat had tot gevolg dat de kaartjes voor de vroege voorstelling al waren uitverkocht. Het leek mij geen goed idee om te wachten tot de late middagvoorstelling en al helemaal niet om in de late avonduren te gaan kijken. Aan het reserveringsloket kocht ik meteen maar de toegangskaarten voor volgende week woensdag, dus dan ga ik nogmaals de treinreis maken naar Den Haag, maar nu met de zekerheid dat ik de mooiste plaats heb gereserveerd in dit wonderbaarlijke theater.

Last Wednesday I travelled to The Hague with the intention to see the IMAX film "Vincent van Gogh" on the giantic film screen in the cupola of Omniversum The Hague... But that went differently.... I had forgotten the crocus holiday and the result was that the tickets for the early show had been sold off. It seemed to me it was not a good idea to wait for the late afternoon show and not at all in the late evening. At the reservation counter I bought tickets for Wednesday next week, therefore I will travel by train to The Hague once again, but now with certainty that I have reserved the best seat in this miraculous theatre.

Ik moest dus mijn plan wijzigen en besloot daarom maar om naar het naastgelegen Museon te gaan. De naam Museon is een samenvoeging van de woorden Museum en Onderwijs. In het Museon heb ik een prachtige middag beleefd. Natuurlijk wemelde het er van de kinderen, maar ook evenzoveel ouders en opa's en oma's en gewone bezoekers zoals ik. Ik ontdekte dat het Museon een heel bijzonder museum is. De programma's zijn heel gevarieerd en gericht op het vergaren van kennis. Niet alleen voor leerlingen van het basisonderwijs maar zeker ook voor het voortgezet onderwijs en voor PABO leerlingen die later zelf les willen gaan geven.

For this reason I had to change my plan and I decided to go to the Museon, next building to the Omniversum. The name Museon is an aggregation of the words Museum and education (onderwijs). I had a good time in the Museon. Of course there were a lot children, but also parents, grandparents and ordinary people like me. I discovered that the Museon is a particular museum. Programs are varied and targeted on gathering knowledge, not only for primary education but also for high school students and students who want to become teachers themselves.

Het hoofdthema is nu tot 31 mei "Ontdek de geheimen van de Diepzee". Alleen deze titel heeft al een grote aantrekkingskracht op kinderen. Op grote schaal worden voorbeelden tentoongesteld met korte duidelijke uitleg, maar nog veel leuker voor kinderen is dat zij interactief bezig kunnen zijn en zich in een fantasierijke wereld kunnen begeven.

The main topic now is up to 31 May " Discover the mysteries of the Deep Sea". Only the title may have a large attraction on children. Many examples are exhibited with short, clear explanations, but the funniest thing for children is that they can play interactively with all kinds of instruments and transfer themselves in an unknown fantasy world.

Voorbeelden van diepzee capsules waarmee mensen, camera's en andere apparaten, tot op 4 kilometer diepte kunnen worden gebracht. Daarmee wordt de zeebodem en het leven onder dergelijke extreme omstandigheden waargenomen en onderzocht.

Examples of deep sea capsules where people, cameras and other apparatus can be brought to the sea floor up to 4 kilometres depth to observe and examine the living under extreme circumstances.

Nog spannender wordt het als zelfs de kleinsten achter de knoppen en beeldschermen kunnen gaan zitten en zelf "hun" ontdekkingsreis kunnen gaan maken. Vanachter het paneel sturen zij hun diepzee capsule naar plaatsen op de zeebodem om daar allerlei exotische dieren op hun beeldscherm te ontdekken. Ik stond versteld te kijken met welk een gemak de kleintjes van deze tijd kunnen omgaan met moeilijke technieken. Wat een verschil met de dingen en omstandigheden waarmee ik zelf ben opgegroeid.

It becomes more exciting when even the smallest children can sit at the desks and play with the devices, screens and knobs to create their own discovery journey. From behind the panel they manoeuvre their capsule to places above the sea floor to discover all kinds of exotic animals which become visible on their screens. I stood there, watching those kids from a distance and it was amazing to see how the children of this time can handle some difficult techniques. What a difference with the things and circumstances I grew up with.

Er is kort geleden weer een hele discussie op gang gekomen tussen bepaalde bevolkingsgroepen over het onstaan van de wereld en de mens. Christenen en Joden geloven dat God de wereld, de mens en al wat leeft in 6 dagen heeft geschapen en de 7de dag als rustdag heeft aangemerkt. De schepping van de mens wordt in de Tora en in de Bijbel beschreven in Genesis 1:27-31. Islamieten geloven dat Allah de wereld en de mens heeft geschapen, maar in de Qor-aan wordt geen melding gemaakt van een tijdsduur (23:13-14). En dan is er nog de benadering van Darwin die het ontstaan van de moderne mens aantoont in zijn evolutie theorie. Ik neem kennis van al wat mij wordt aangeboden en baseer daarop mijn eigen mening. :-)

Recently a renewed discussion started between certain population groups concerning the creation of the world and humanity. Christians and Jews believe that God has created the World, humans and all what lives in 6 days and made the 7th day as a rest day. The creation of humans is described in the Torah and in the Bible in Genesis 1:27 - 31. Muslims believe that Allah has created the World and humans, but there is no report in the Qor-aan (Koran) about the duration in time (23: 13-14). And then there is the approach of Darwin in his evolution theory. All these groups have their own truth in which they believe in and they disagree strongly with each other. It becomes more confusing when we realize that each religion is divided in many sub groups and each of those sub groups created their own new truth. We find this phenomenon in the Jewish community, the Christian community and in the Islamic world. So there is enough to discuss or even to kill each other or to start a devastating war. I'll take notice of everything what is offered and take the freedom to build my own opinion on that . : -)

De gevarieerdheid aan onderwerpen en activiteiten kent nauwelijks grenzen. Het Museon biedt de mogelijkheid een ware ontdekkingstocht te maken door de tijd. Je kan er kennis opdoen over hoe de mensen duizenden jaren geleden leefden in Europa. Via vitrines met oudheidkundige vondsten, beeldschermen waarop videobeelden worden getoond en foto's wordt een beeld gecreëerd van de wereld waarin wij nu leven.

The variety of subjects and activities is almost unlimited. The Museon offers the possibility to make a real discovery excursion through the time. You can acquire knowledge concerning how people lived in Europe thousands of years ago. By means of showcases with archaeology finds, screens on which video pictures are shown, and photos and pictures of the world in which we live now and its history.

De door de BBC Wildlife Magazine georganiseerde wedstrijd "Wildlife Photographer of the Year", toont hier in een bijzondere tentoonstelling een verzameling foto's, die soms onder de meest barre omstandigheden tot stand zijn gekomen. Lange reizen door haast onbegaanbare oorden en dagenlang wachten op dat ene moment om die foto te maken die je beroemd kan maken. Het is zeker de moeite waard om de bijschriften naast de foto's te lezen, dan pas begrijp je de bedoelingen van de fotograaf goed.
De winnaar van 2008 is de Amerikaan Steve Winter met zijn prachtige foto "Snowstorm Leopard", genomen in het Hemis High Altitude National Park in het Himalayagebergte.

The by BBC Wildlife Magazine organized photo competition " Wildlife Photographer of the Year", shows in a particular exhibition a collection exceptional photos, sometimes made under extreme circumstances. Long travels over almost impassable roads, then waiting for days or sometimes weeks to shoot that one and only photo which can make you famous. It is certainly worth to read the inscriptions beside the photos, then you understand the intentions of the photographer better. The winner of 2008 is the American photographer Steve Winter with his splendid photo " Snowstorm Leopard" , taken in the Hemis High Altitude National Park in the Himalayas.

Of het nu gaat over de vraag wat een Andrewsarchus was, of over de vraag waarom ijsberen geen pinquins eten. Wat we ook moeten weten is, dat er nog miljarden dinosaurussen leven. De vogels die wij kennen zijn er regelrechte afstammelingen van.

If it now concerns the question what an Andrewsarchus was, or concerning the question for what reason a polar bear does not eat penguins. What we certainly have to know is that there are still billions dinosaurs living around us. The birds we know and see around our houses are straight descendants of them.

Waarom sommige vogels zoals de Dodo, Kiwi en Struisvogels gestopt zijn met vliegen of, hoe ziet bergkristal er uit en waarvoor kan het worden gebruikt. Op al deze vragen wordt antwoord gegeven in het Museon.

Why some birds such as the Dodo, Kiwi and Ostriches stopped flying or, how rock crystal looks and for what it can be used. On all these questions the answer can be found in the Museon.

Ik heb een leerzame en overgetelijke middag gehad en heb me uitstekend vermaakt. Weer een ervaring rijker sluit ik hierbij mijn verhaal af met een prachtige kopie van een grotschildering uit de oudheid.

I have had an instructive and unforgettable afternoon and have amused myself. An experience richer and I concludes this tale with a splendid copy of a cave drawing.
