Vancouver 2010 Olympic Theme Song

Our thoughts go also out to Nodar Kumaritashvili who died after a tragic accident.

Songtext:

"I Believe
"

There comes a moment, when my heart must stand alone
On this lonely path I've chosen,
like a house thats not a home
sometimes when I feel I've had enough
and I feel like giving up
you willed me to be all I can be
now nothing can stop me
I believe in the power that comes
From a world brought together as one
I believe together we'll find
I believe in the power of you and I

This is the moment we have dreamed of all our lives
We'll be the change we wish from others
We'll stand tall for what its right
And in my hearts there'll be no doubt
The arms of the world will come reaching out
And embrace me to be all I can be
Now nothing can stop me
I believe in the power that comes
From a world brought together as one
I believe together we'll fly
I believe in the power of you and I

I believe the time is right now
Stand tall and make the world proud
I believe together we'll fly
I believe in the power..
I believe in the power that comes
From a world brought together as one
(Of you and I)
I believe together we'll fly
I believe in the power of you and I
(power)
I believe the time is right now
(Oh you and I)
Stand tall and make the world proud
I believe together we'll fly (Together we'll fly)
I believe in the power of you and I
(I believe in the power of you and I).

Vredespaleis - Peace Palace

Weeks ago I had registered for a guided tour in the Peace Palace in the Hague. It was one of my secret wishes to see this famous building from the inside. The appointment had been made for February 2 in the afternoon. It was raining cats and dogs when I left our house and it did not stop that day. As usual I departed on time from home and after a train journey of one hour and a half I arrived in the Hague where it yet rained harder than where I came from.

With the city bus it was a short ride from the Central Station to the Peace Palace. When I arrived there, I firstly sought a place to hide for the rain and where I could wait until I could go through the security check to get permitted. That was disappointing..., nowhere a place to hide and nothing else remained then to look at the building from the outside while I had to walk in the rain.

In front of the large heavy gate I discovered a small monument.... It was the World Peace Flame Pathway. A small spot here in the city, where on a plaque 197 countries were mentioned, who had made appointments to make the world more peaceful. A small blue pillar, with inside an always burning flame, and circled by stones from all connected countries.

The grounds around the Peace Palace has been protected with a large fence and security cameras. In the Summer the closed wooded garden takes away the view on the palace, but now in the winter time, you get beautiful views on the palace from different perspectives. Actually, this view could be from a fairy-tail.

During this rainy walk around the palace and the gardens, I discovered at the other side of the street a modern looking coffee shop (No... not what you think), named: "De Oude Tol". I decided to have a look over there for a nice warm cup of coffee and a place to hide for the rain. And Yes!....The reception was very kind and the coffee tasted superbly. Very soon the owner and his partner started a conversation with me and I discovered that the man had lived many years in Schagen, approximately 12 kilometres from my residence. Our conversation was quite pleasant and it brought back many memories to the man and he told me from the years that he had lived in Schagen.

Moreover I got yet an extensive explanation about the name of their coffee house: "De Oude Tol". The name has been diverted by the adjacent Tolhuis a small building, dated approximately 1850. Previously was here the border between Scheveningen and the Hague and when the border had to be passed then toll was levied. The original tollhouse is inhabited by an artist, who lives there for a lot of years and has no plans to leave this beautiful place. It became time to go now to the security checkpoint of the Peace Palace to check in.

It was not allowed to make photographs within the building and of course I have respected this rule. So I have downloaded these two photographs via internet to show something of the beauty and impressive works of art that has been brought here together. The origin and donations of all the art like floors, wall covering, tiles, vases, woodworks and to much to name everything, became explained by the guide.

It is not my intention to explain the history of the Peace Palace and which activities take place here, but I refer to the relevant parts for those who are interested in these facts.

After a long day, mainly spent in the rain, I went to the Central Station in the Hague where I waited for the train to bring me home again.

Now it is time to fill in my Tax form....

Bobbie's Snow Dance - Sneeuwdans

Bobbie did yesterday a snow dance in her front yard and really it went snowing, only not in Maple Ridge, Canada but here in The Netherlands,.... right in front of our house. So, Bobbie thinks she did probably the wrong dance steps and she could be right in this case.

On the internet, I sought for more snow dancers and really, I found a weblog together with a photo. Thus when you like to try a snow dance, than here is described how to do it. Click here to have a look on her weblog.

De Muzikant - The Musician

The snow has almost disappeared here in North Holland. What's left is some dirty black snow along the verge of the roads. The temperatures go up and down around the 0° C which feels like -4° C, thus no reason to say that it is nice weather. Really unstable weather as the forecasters call this kind of weather.

I'm trying to make plans to go outdoors to do nice things in the open air, but after a while I cancel my ideas. The dark chilly days and the unpleasant temperatures keep me inside. This morning I went to Schagen for a few errands. In front of the entrance of the shopping centre sat this Romanian musician. He played Romanian music on his accordion in a virtuoso manner (way?). With a happy face, his hat on, wearing a warm coat and gloves he played the stars from heaven. Quick passers-by threw a few coins in his accordion bag then they ran immediately and quickly into the heated shopping centre or to their parked car. Imperturbably he played further and nodded kindly to the people who just looked at him or listened a moment to his music, but it was quite... very quietly.
